Dedicated to supporting U.S. Army First Lieutenant Ehren K. Watada in his efforts to leave military service on moral grounds. After one tour of duty, Watada sought to invoke conscientious objector status, and the site supports his difficult (but ultimately successful) path towards avoiding further military service in the Iraq War.

The site included action reports, letters from his mother, photos of Watada, and articles about actions and protests supporting Watada and other conscientious objectors.

The site was described this way:

Disobedience is an open network made up of diverse groups and individuals. We invite all groups and individuals to join in taking action to stop this war & start the peace.

One 2004 news item featured the title "Carnival Against Oil Wars and Climate Chaos - at the BP AGM."

There were a lot of news articles about ongoing and upcoming protest and civil disobedience actions. The variety and quantity of the actions is impressive. They range from reclaiming the military bases to direct action against a european arms fair, from actions against media to blocking roads.

By 2010 the site had been appropriated for commerce, with the message: "Welcome to Disobedience, this will be a guide to dog training and all of the dog training books and equipment that you can buy online in the UK."

Coalition to stop the terror acts emerged around 2000 in the U.K. but continued to feature messages of opposition to the war as it expired three years later.

The site featured the tag line

Stop the war - no to the anti-"terror" law!

It may be that the 'war' to which this referred was the so-called 'war on terror', but it's
also possible, given the time frame, that it was an expression of opposition to the war in
Afghanistan. In any case, the coalition also opposed Islamophobia, which it felt was codified in the 2000 Terror Act.

This site was home to Culture Clash, a 2002 online artwork by Andrej Tisma. Based on comparison of two cultures -- the old Mesopotamian (Iraq) and modern American culture -- the photographs carried an implicit criticism of American militarism. Tisma juxtaposed ancient art with "smart" weapon, making an acerbic commentary on military intervention which ruins the historic sites and artifacts. The work anticipated the American attack on Iraq, foreshadowing the cultural damages that would occur. Since the free hosting site disappeared, Tisma's work has been moved to atisma.com/webart/Clash/cultureclash.htm

An eclectic mix of links and satirical photography. At one point the site offered the following quote from Dwight Eisenhower:

Every gun that is fired, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hope of its children.

The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than thirty cities. It is two electric plants, each serving a town of sixty thousand population. It is two fine, fully equipped hospitals. It is some fifty miles of concrete highway. We pay for a single fighter plane with a half-million bushels of wheat. We pay for a single destroyer with new homes that could have housed more than eight thousand people.

This is not a way of life at all, in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging upon a cross of iron.... [We] aspire to this: the lifting, from the backs and from the hearts of men, of their burden of arms and fears - so that they may find before them a golden age of freedom and of peace.

— "The Chance for Peace," April 1953

6 April 2003 Document
The US and British invasion and massacre is ruthlessly going on in Iraq. Bombs keep pounding Iraqi civilians day and night.

Thousands of Iraqis have died during those bombardments going on for 20 days now. Children, women and old people, whose only guilt is living in Iraq, died under the missiles of the imperialists.

They said, "We are going to Iraq to deliver democracy and liberation to the Iraqi people."

According to an article in Socialist Worker Online issue 1882, the site published a declaration produced during a conference in Cairo in late 2003, the Second Cairo Conference Against Capitalist Globalisation and US Hegemony:

THE CONFERENCE released the second Cairo declaration, calling for opposition to capitalist globalisation and US power.

It also urges support for the Iraqi resistance to US occupation and the Palestinian intifada, or uprising, against Israeli occupation.

The declaration states its support for building a united international movement that stands against imperialism and capitalism.

This site is related to Larry Everest, independent author and producer. He wrote the book "Oil, Power and Empire: Iraq and the US Global Agenda" and used the site to invite people to read it and buy it. The site featured the following statement:

This unique volume compiles in one place a history of US intervention against Iraq and the devastating consequences for the people and the region. It shows the ways in which war today is a continuation of that history, but also a radical leap to more direct military control in Iraq and around the world. The “Bush Doctrine” is both built on our imperial history and yet new and far more dangerous.

Everest's bio is also on the site:

Larry Everest has covered the Middle East and Central Asia for over 20 years for the Revolutionary Worker newspaper and other publications. He traveled to Iran in 1979 and again in 1980, shortly after the revolution that toppled the Shah. During both visits, he traveled to Iranian Kurdistan, and in 1980 was able to interview Islamic militants then holding the U.S. Embassy.

Justice not Vengeance is a group of individuals who have come together to show their opposition to military retaliation in response to the events of 11 September 2001. The group subscribes to ARROW's core principles and is supported by ARROW and other peace groups.

Anti-war briefings - concise and factual interpretations of events since 11 September 2001

Weekly vigil every Tuesday, 6-7pm, opposite Downing Street

The group's position statement read as follows:

Northwest Veterans for Peace was founded during the buildup for the Persian Gulf war when a small group of veterans got together in a hallway, outside an anti-war activist meeting, where they talked of their shared experiences and concerns over 'just another war'. We now are comprised of veterans from WWII, Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf War, and Somalia, and many committed supporters. We have about thirty active members and other, less active supporters. We operate from our homes in and around Portland, Oregon where we do outreach to veterans and their family members in need of support. We also have a speakers bureau for the schools around our area,. We spoke in about eighty classrooms last year. We believe a youth well educated in the reality of war can only benefit society. We do not believe the young people are receiving a balanced perspective on war in today's society. If the true consequences of war are not shared person to person, it is more likely to be accepted as an alternative to settling international disputes. "The first casualty of war is truth."
